The 1974-75 season saw Argyle promoted back to the Second Division after 7 seasons in the Third Division. Led by Paul Mariner and Billy Rafferty, the team played some scintillating football and were top scorers in the division with 79 goals. In a tight race for the title, Tony Waiters’ pilgrims fought for the title all the way to the final day, but lost out to Blackburn Rovers by a single point.
As The Football League only awards medals to the champion team, Argyle issued their own silver promotion medals to the team.
The medals were made by Alec Brook Limited in London, and are engraved with the Club Crest on one side and Football League Division III Runners up 1974-75 on the other.
